Dr Siân Fussell, CTO and co-founder of Bristol-based Albotherm, has been named one of 50 winners of the 2025 Innovate UK Women in Innovation Awards.

Recognised for her groundbreaking work in sustainable agriculture, this achievement highlights Bristol’s role as a hub for cutting-edge innovation.

Albotherm’s smart additives enable passive cooling in greenhouses, helping farmers boost crop yields by up to 34% while cutting reliance on energy-intensive cooling systems. Their temperature-responsive technology transitions from transparent to reflective, reducing energy use and improving agricultural efficiency.

With the award funding, Siân’s team will focus on creating biodegradable versions of their additives, further advancing sustainability in agriculture. This innovation aligns with Albotherm’s mission to decarbonise cooling technologies and support local food production, enhancing the UK’s food security.

Dr Siân Fussell said: "Winning this award is not just a personal milestone but also a recognition of the hard work and vision of our entire team at Albotherm. This funding will enable us to take a critical step forward in our journey to creating environmentally responsible products, and it’s an exciting opportunity to contribute even more to building a sustainable future."

The Innovate UK Women in Innovation Awards celebrate female entrepreneurs tackling global challenges. Siân’s success not only reflects Bristol’s leadership in sustainability but also inspires the next generation of women innovators driving transformative change in STEM.
