Zero carbon vehicles

IAAPS is driving the development of ultra-low emission vehicle technologies. By bridging the gap between academia and industry, our region is creating groundbreaking innovations that will shape the global automotive landscape. This focus on rapid research and development will accelerate the transition to zero-carbon vehicles.

Green energy

The West of England is a green energy leader, with cutting-edge waste-to-energy facilities, operated by GENeco, Viridor, and Suez Environment's Severnside plan, and strong investments in biogas and electric buses. First Group's move to a zero-emission fleet by 2020 reinforced the region's position in sustainable transport.

Significant investment in nuclear power

The two new reactors at HPC mark the beginning of a significant programme of investment in nuclear power across the UK. In the West of England this includes:

  • EPR Design Centre: brings nuclear designers and engineers together from EDF and British engineering partners and suppliers
  • Severn Edge: shortlisted as one of the five sites for the world's first nuclear fusion power plant
  • South West Nuclear Hub: cutting edge of nuclear R&D to find innovative solutions to industrial challenges

Emerging opportunities

Hinkley Point C (HPC) nuclear power station is the first new nuclear power station in the UK for a generation.
