Energy giant EDF Energy opened their new office in Bristol as part of the £18 billion investment into the region to build a new nuclear power station near Bridgwater in Somerset. Hinkley Point C is one of the largest and most complex major infrastructure projects in Europe. The Bristol based team is supporting the construction of the new power station which will create thousands of jobs and boost the economy in the South West.
Invest Bristol & Bath supported EDF Energy with their move to Bristol as part of the 18 billion investment to build Hinkley Point C.
Invest Bristol & Bath started to work with EDF Energy in 2015 on their relocation programme on the back of a need to transfer 200 job roles to the region from their London and Gloucester locations.
The team worked alongside EDF Energy’s relocation agency and attended a number of events across both locations with the aim to relocate a pool of staff to specific roles.
During the process Invest Bristol & Bath were able to help employees and their families to highlight the opportunities the region brings. These included the burgeoning professional clusters which would provide jobs for their spouses, the practical elements such as housing, leisure, transport, and the quality of life which is critical to many people’s decision to relocate to Bristol.
Following the events for employees, Invest Bristol & Bath supported in the hosting of orientation visits to the city by providing space and resource for walking tours along with comprehensive information packs. Invest Bristol and Bath have and continue to support ad hoc queries from individual employees, including their families so they are able to make an informed decision.
In total 75% of employees consulted decided to make the move to Bristol by the end of 2016.

Invest Bristol & Bath continue to work with EDF Energy to ensure they settle quickly into the city and are able to attract and retain staff going forward, such as advising EDF Energy on how to take advantage of any incentive packages for employees such as discounts on travel and leisure.
